I'm gonna draw something like this tomorrow.

Just the frame, though, because the cassette’s gonna be a bitch and 3/4 to draw. I know, I’ve drawn other bikes on letter-size. Not necessarily Canyon, but I’ll meld different bikes (BMC impec Lambo, Giant Propel Advanced, Trek Speed Concept, Pinarello Bolide, some track bikes) to complete the look I’m gunning for.

My lower back just grimaced when I saw the design of that bike. I am sure it is used for hills and sprints (and is badass), but I was thinking how bad it’d hurt riding around town.

I’ll stick to my 8 speed Focus Urban-8 bike....ouch...man....

“the cassette’s gonna be a bitch”

Just get a D/A converter and put everything on mp3!

Time trials bike. Solo sprint from point A to point B. Aerodynamics are key. Goofy helmets and skin-tight suits are required.

Heh, yeah, I’ve become a big fan of actual workaday bikes lately. I was kind of sad when upright flat-bar road bikes (aka “urban bikes” sometimes) fell out of fashion. I spent a large part of Sunday on an old steel Italian racing bike and even that had my joints complaining afterward.

The 70s/80s saw hyper-specialization threaten to sink the industry. Same thing happened in the 90s when every bike became more and more mountain-y and dual-suspension-y until everyone rejected it.

Now it’s so stupidly specialized that I must laugh. Time trail bikes? Would not be caught dead on one. Fixies? No, hell no. Single-speed? Why? 29ers and super fat tire bikes? What a fad. It’s like the industry is being controlled by hipsters and anything normal must be too boring.

What got me about bikes...they apparently come in Shirt Sizes. So I ordered my Focus bike and the operator asked me what size. Size? Bikes come in S/M/L and occasionally XL. Huh? I had to goto a local bike store and get “sized”. I wasn’t aware of this.

My bike has a carbon fiber belt, which is awesome, and can change gears. So I have my 8 speeds for my Urban Assault and limited maintance. My issue is I should’ve gotten a bike with shocks. That is about my only complaint. Bikes are a bit weird lately. I don’t understand single speeds at all.

Russians went even further with the low riding position.

Yeah, the sizing thing. I mail-ordered a Marin casual road bike because it was a pretty smokin’ deal and the “build” part was fairly limited so I had it put together within 30 minutes. Problem was I didn’t want a bike that I’d struggle to stand over so I ordered “Medium.” It’s controllable and compact, maybe a little too much so, but that’s life in marketing nowadays I guess.

Meanwhile though, good job on your bike and F suspension. Bouncy forks are for offroad use IMO. Focus is awesome too. I definitely looked into them for my last purchase.

The shocks would’ve been for when I rode around St. Pete, FL. Lots of cobblestones that wanted to shake all the fillings out of my teeth. I just moved to outside of Baltimore and there are almost no bike trails here...so my riding went from frequent to 0. My bike resides in my guest bedroom with likely uninflated tires. Poor bike :(

You really should just try riding a fattie... They just make you giggle. Not a long distance bike, not a hillclimber by any stretch but as a city type bike for shorter distances, they are comfortable, the tires eat up any imperfections, and they will roll over most anything. Heavy but fun

Oh, a fattie? It gets better.

All I want now is a Full Floater system and Dyad RT2 shocks. A full-suspension fat bike... why not?
